Mentor Biography

My name is Justin Suriel, and I am Data science Major. I am going to be in my third year at UCF. In 2024, I graduated from Calvary Christian High School, which is in Clearwater, Florida. One of my favorite classes that I have taken is Intro to C Programming. I enjoyed this course because it is one of many foundational required for my major, and it helps me build the skills needed. We also got to create simple projects that were fun to make. One of my favorite professors so far at UCF is Kyle Dencker. I took him for into to C programming, and he made the class way more enjoyable. When he teaches, he makes the content that is being taught enjoyable. When he teaches, he does not just give a bunch of info that would normally overwhelm someone but breaks concepts down and shows how they build of each other. He also shows real-world application, which made the material more meaningful. This program is a great stepping-stone for students in STEM majors. I got involved because of the opportunities and networking provided. Also, you are able to meet other students in your year and those ahead of you, creating a system that offers strong support. My advice is to never be afraid to ask for help; there is always someone who has experienced similar struggles and challenges and is able to help and support you. In my free time I enjoy relaxing by playing video games or playing instruments. I also enjoy travelling, hanging out with friends, and going to the beach.
