Profile

My name is Ethan Ramirez, and I am a Biomedical Sciences major. This will be my fourth year at UCF. I graduated from Mariner High School in 2014. Mariner High is located in my hometown of Cape Coral, Florida. One of my favorite classes that I have taken thus far has been Quantitative Biological Methods (QBM) because it really gave me a firm basis on biomedical research as a whole. Without QBM, I would likely have not attained a position doing biomedical research as an undergraduate here at UCF. One of my favorite professors at UCF is Dr. Samsam. Samsam is an absolute beast when it comes to all things anatomy and he teaches anatomy at a rigorous level expected of medical students for those who wish to go on and apply to professional schools. Samsam never said something in class if it didn’t have true purpose and serious implications in the human body. Samsam also made me think critically as his tests were beyond sheer memorization of different body parts and involved determining a diagnosis based upon scenarios that are likely to occur in a person’s life. I love COMPASS because it allows students to question their future classes and careers in a positive and supportive environment. I wish I would’ve been in COMPASS myself as a freshman to affirm my decisions going into college, as opposed to learning on the spot throughout the years. In my free time I like to watch movies, read, play basketball, and eat at different restaurants in Orlando.

Words of wisdom for all incoming students is to stay observant and listen to everyone’s story when you meet someone new because unlikely connections can turn into lifelong friendships/mentorships and propel your future forward.
