Profile

My name is Emily Coisnard and I am a Biology major. This will be my second year at UCF. I graduated from West Broward High School, in Pembroke Pines, Florida in 2017. One of my favorite class so far was my Biology class. When I was younger the human body always fascinated me, so when it was time to decide on a degree program for college I knew I wanted that same feeling that I had as a child. This class was what made me positive that I chose the right path for me, and got me excited about my future Biology and Biology-related courses. In fact, Professor Thomas, my Biology teacher in Spring 2018, has been one of my favorites so far. She truly has a passion for teaching and has everyone’s best interest at heart. She does what she can make sure that we have the correct help and resources available to help us; Professor Thomas wants you to succeed. On top of all of this, she is a sweet and kind, and that is reflected within her interactions with students. The biggest reason as to why I decided to become a COMPASS mentor was because I was a part of COMPASS my first year at UCF. I want my mentees to know that it is okay not to have their entire futures mapped out already and that someone, just like them, went through a similar situation. I know what it is like to feel like you are going through something alone, and I want to be able to be a resource and a voice for those who are afraid of being undecided. I would like to be a guide, an extra resource, and a friend that the students feel free to talk to when they need help, have any questions, or just want to talk in general. I hope that I can create a connection where my mentees. I will support you. Last year, I really discovered that I enjoy building Nanoblocks, which essentially are tiny Legos. I am also a big Grey’s Anatomy and Disney fan, and spend most of my free time hanging out with friends, going to Disney, and occasionally having some “me” time.

Words of Wisdom: Do not stress yourself out over being undecided or unsure; it is okay. Your mentors are here to guide you and your peers are in a similar position. You are not alone here! The only ”right” choice is to pursue something that will make you happy!
