Mentor Biography

Hello! My name is Abby Rains, and I will be a Junior Civil Engineering student with a mathematics minor starting this Fall! I graduated from high school in 2019 from Celebration High School in Kissimmee, FL, a few miles down the road from Walt Disney World. One of my favorite classes I’ve taken at UCF is Calc 2. I took Calc 2 through EXCEL with Chris Botelho, who is also one of my favorite professors. It’s the first class that really challenged me, and the turning point in college where I learned how to study effectively and utilize office hours/other helpful resources. I got involved with the EXCEL/COMPASS program because I wanted to be surrounded by others who were dedicated and passionate about the same things I was. I knew the program would offer me opportunities to meet new people and build strong relationships. Outside of school, I enjoy visiting the theme parks, skateboarding, and painting!
