- COMPASS Mentor
My name is Edward Garcia-Olmeda, and I am a Biomedical Sciences major. This will be my senior year at UCF. I graduated in 2014 from Harmony High School which is in Harmon, Florida. My favorite class at UCF is Qualitative Biological Methods. It is a major requirement course and it is absolutely interesting. This class teaches you how to purify proteins and DNA fragments in the lab. One of my favorite professors at UCF is Dr. Sotero. He teaches Genetics I and he makes the class incredibly interesting. He is very insightful in his field and is incredibly helpful to all of his students. Dr. Sotero made the class interesting by including topics from mainstream culture that made sure everybody could connect with the topic. I decided to get involved with COMPASS program because I feel that my knowledge in my current and past curriculum is helpful for students that are having difficulty in deciding what STEM major they are interested in. This program provides students with help and answers to questions that first-year students have with regards to college, classes, and overall life. College is the time in our lives where we start defining who we are in society. In my free time I enjoy watching movies, cooking, camping, and playing with my two dogs.
